Gable-End Plantation Shutters for Home in Broadstone, Dorset
The Brief
Recently, a homeowner in Broadstone reached out to the team at Broadview looking to have a set of shutters installed on their gable-end window.
A gable-end window, also known as an apex window, is a window installed on the triangular wall at the end of a gabled roof. It helps bring natural light and ventilation into upper levels while neatly following the pitch of the ceiling.
In the last few years, we’ve been working on an increasing number of gable-end windows as many homeowners convert their bungalows into houses. From our experience, we’ve found that shutters (which this particular client opted for) are one of the best options due to the customisation and light control they offer. Shaped blinds by Duette® are also a great choice for gable-end windows, as they offer excellent thermal efficiency and remote control operation.
The Solution
We began by visiting our client’s home for a free consultation. There, we took measurements of the window and spoke with the homeowner to fully understand their needs and preferences.
After showing them the available options and providing our professional recommendations, they ultimately decided on a set of wooden tier-on-tier plantation shutters in the Montana style. The shutters would be pure white to match the rest of the room’s aesthetic, and made-to-measure to fit the triangular window seamlessly.
With the consultation wrapped up, we got to work designing the shutters in the chosen colour and style. Per the client’s request, we made the louvres 63 mm to create a solid look when closed. We also incorporated an invisible tilt mechanism, so there was no unsightly rod running down the front or back of the louvres. This resulted in a sleek, uncluttered appearance.
Once the shutters were ready, we returned to their home at a convenient time to expertly fit them onto the window, making sure there were no gaps or overhang and maximising their light-blocking potential. We also tested them to make sure they opened and closed smoothly.
The Result
In the end, the homeowner was delighted to have a set of stylish, practical, and sturdy shutters that perfectly complemented their room’s decor. They also let us know how happy they were with our service from start to finish, something we always love to hear
