Congratulations on moving into your new home! It’s tough to get on the ladder, and now that you’re in, we’re sure you’re going to be looking for cost-effective ways to make your home nice and cosy and personal to you. Installing blinds is one way to do this – and to, of course, ensure a good night’s sleep in your new home!

Blinds are easier to install than curtains, and come in a range of materials and designs to suit modern – and traditional - style homes. If you’ve never bought blinds before, and you’re unsure on how to approach your purchase, Broadview Blinds has created this handy guide to ensure you make the right choice for each room – first time round.

Tips for Buying Blinds for Each Room

If you’ve been perusing our products, you’ll find there is a wide and varying range of blinds to choose from, all of which have slightly different optimisations and specifications. To make it easier to choose which blind is best for the different areas of your new home, we’ve detailed our suggestions for each room below.

The Kitchen

When you’re cooking up a storm in the kitchen, your blinds are going to be subject to the likes of washing up water, steam, and grease. But thankfully, there are blinds out there that are made from hardy materials that are resistant to splashes, are wipe clean, and even have fire-resistant properties, ensuring your home continues to look smart, while being a safe place to live.

Faux wood is a fantastic material here – it’s fire retardant unlike its real wood counterparts, and resistant to warping that can be put down to temperature changes and exposure to damp and moisture. It can also add more style points than fabric and PVC options – a potentially important factor for first time buyers!

We have faux wood and waterproof material options in a wide variety of styles, including roller blinds, venetian blinds, and vertical blinds. Not only that, they come in a variety of colours, too, meaning you have the freedom to go to town with the interior design of your new home.

The Living Room

Priorities are usually slightly different when it comes to the living room, as this is where you come to relax and chill after a day at work, or a day out and about on the weekend.

This means that privacy, security, and cosiness come into play – the first two factors particularly if your new home is facing a busy street or main road.

At Broadview, we stock a huge variety of blinds that’ll allow you to strike the perfect balance between style and functionality – but we believe our vertical and wooden blinds will do this best.

Vertical blinds and wooden blinds really do give you the best of both worlds, with vertical blinds especially useful for full length windows such as patio doors, and wooden blinds better for standard windows.

The Bathroom

The bathroom – a place where you’ll want complete privacy. Thankfully blinds are a great option for achieving this – and with plenty of damp-resistant options to choose from, you won’t need to compromise on style, either.

To avoid your blinds warping over time, or getting damp, we recommend a PVC fabric – which can easily be wiped clean and doesn’t absorb water. Roller blinds – in particular – offer plenty of patterns and styles in a durable PVC fabric.

Another option – and one to choose if you want to let in air and light during the day - is an aluminium blind. Readily available in a venetian style, the wipe-clean, rust-resistant, adjustable properties of aluminium blinds make them the ideal choice for bathrooms.

The Bedroom

Last by not least is your bedroom. You could probably create an argument to use any type of blind in a bedroom, although our most popular choices are blackout blinds, and our Intu blinds – both of which offer enviable properties.

Blackout blinds do what they say on the tin – they completely block out any external light source – great for getting a good night’s sleep. Blackout roller blinds are also a cost-effective option, but the compromise is that they don’t allow for much of a breeze if you like your windows open.

Our Intu blinds are more expensive, but they do possess a range of properties to ensure your bedroom temperature remains at a comfortable, ambient level. In addition, the technology of the blinds means fitting them in easy – plus, there are blackout options to boot!
