How To Clean Roman Blinds
Whether you use a vacuum cleaner, cloth or cleaning products, check out our expert advice on how to clean Roman blinds
Roman blinds look sophisticated, can block out most of the light from your window and can add colour and vibrance to your room. But their concertina-like structure means that they can harbour a lot of dirt and dust; sometimes blinds can become stained and every now and then, it’s handy to give them a clean. Luckily, it’s really easy to clean Roman blinds, so make sure that you do so regularly that they can stay looking stylish and fresh.
Use A Vacuum Cleaner
Start off by using a vacuum cleaner to get rid of dust that may have built up on the blind over time. Use an upholstery attachment to reach crevices in the blind and be sure to use a low suction power setting to avoid pulling the fabric excessively. Roman blinds may be made of silk, suede, cotton or linen, but still need a good vacuum as they’re exposed to sunlight.
Damp Cloth and Fabric Cleaner
Often the best way to clean anything in your house is to use a damp cloth. Fabric cleaner can be helpful for stain removal but remember to read the bottle carefully to check that the solution is safe to use on your blinds. If in doubt, bicarbonate of soda can be a safe option that will remove stains from your blinds and lead them completely odour-free.
Steam Clean
There are Roman blinds that are best off steam cleaned, as they don’t react well to any more moisture. You can use a steam cleaner while the blinds are still up on the window, but be gentle with the fabric, as you don’t want to scald the material or saturate it with too much water.
