Blind ambitions lead to fashionable windows

Fashion, it seems, rules in the home as well as on the catwalk and there's no better time to ensure your home isn't looking out of date than at the beginning of a New Year.  Whilst the window is often the last element to be considered when decorating a room it can actually make a big difference to a room's overall style.  The use of blinds as a decorative element is increasingly popular and when selected carefully can set the tone of a room and make a fashion statement in its own right.

Broadview, a Poole-based manufacturer and supplier of blinds and awnings, has an extensive range of blinds that can enhance or transform a living space.  Blinds are increasingly the fashionable alternative to curtains, allowing homeowners to control the degree of sunlight, shade, ventilation and privacy in a room.  There is a vast array of window blinds available from Broadview including:

Panel blinds - The latest fashionable addition to the Broadview product range, are panel blinds. These provide a versatile window covering and are set to make a big impact this year, looking fabulous in both contemporary and traditional interior design schemes.

Offering an innovative and attractive way to accentuate floor-to-ceiling windows, patio doors and sliding doors, the wide panels reflect and filter daylight effectively and also maintain privacy. Panel blinds can also be used as a stylish room divider; providing the flexibility to create either a large space when open, or a little seclusion when closed.

Roman blinds - Beautifully simple, yet incredibly stylish, the Roman blind is a classic design.  The straight lines provide a modern look which will complement almost any room.  Roman blinds are lowered in folds, offering protection from sunshine without cutting out too much light.

Perfect Fit Pleated blinds - These neat, modern blinds are both practical and popular lending a contemporary style to any room or conservatory. The revolutionary fitting mechanism means the blind can be installed 'perfectly' into most UPVC windows and creates a comfortable environment in a conservatory all year round.  The fabric is efficient at retaining warmth during the cold winter evenings and as the blinds reflect the sun's heat, the room stays cool throughout the summer.

Venetian blinds - Create a modern, uncluttered look.  Venetian blinds offer style and sophistication to any room and give great flexibility - pull the blinds up to let light flood in, or lower the blinds and tilt the slats for intimate privacy.  To determine the amount of light entering the room, the angle of the slats can be altered to allow daylight and sun control.

Roller blinds - One of Britain's favourites, the roller blind is perfectly suited to kitchens and bathrooms adding simple style to any room.  The fabric reduces glare while filtering incoming light.

Vertical blinds - Sleek, vertical lines create a distinctly neat effect, whilst allowing maximum control of light and privacy. Vertical blinds are ideal for patio doors and can be tilted to an angle or pulled back completely to provide a clear view of the outside world.

Broadview's top tips on what to consider when choosing blinds for windows:
1) Think about the size of the blinds - Do you want the blinds to extend over the window edge, to fit within the window frame or fit within the panels of the window?
2) Consider the need for privacy - How much privacy do you need?  Some blinds will allow in rays of sunlight and effectively block the outdoors.
3) Take into account your need for light control - If light control is an issue, go for Venetian or vertical blinds. By tilting or rotating the slats, the degree of light penetrating the room can be controlled.
4) Think about the direction the window opens - Some windows open up, some out and some in.
5) What direction does the window face? North-facing windows bring in consistent light but could subject a room to the coldest exposure. As 40% of heat escapes through windows, consider energy-saving window treatments for North-facing windows.  East-facing windows offer bright light early in the morning, meaning that the room will heat quickly.  There are blinds that will help to retain the heat.  West-facing windows let in the most light and blinds that block out the UV rays are best.  South-facing windows are best for consistent, natural light.  There are blinds available that let in the light and also provide protection against the light.
Broadview's blinds are available in an extensive range of materials to suit every choice of décor, from translucent, plain and patterned fabrics to various woven woods. A selection of accessories, such as eyelets and braids, ensures a personalised finishing touch.
